How does the SoundTouch™ wireless adapter work?

The adapter lets you stream your favorite music, such as Internet radio, Pandora® and your music library, using your home Wi-Fi® network.

What products are compatible with the SoundTouch™ wireless adapter?

The adapter is compatible with the Series II version of the Lifestyle® 535, 525, 235 and 135 home entertainment systems, and with the VideoWave® III entertainment system.

Is the SoundTouch™ wireless adapter difficult to set up?

No. You can complete the one-time setup process in just a few simple steps. After that, use the free SoundTouch™ app to explore and manage your music.

Why can’t I just buy the SoundTouch™ wireless adapter and add it to my existing Lifestyle® and VideoWave entertainment systems?

The SoundTouch™ wireless adapter requires a much higher level of power than is available in our previous Lifestyle® and VideoWave entertainment systems. You can, however, buy the adapter for our current Series II Lifestyle® entertainment systems. And it comes pre-packaged with the VideoWave III system.

Do Lifestyle® Series II and VideoWave III entertainment systems have AirPlay®?

No. Bose® Lifestyle® and VideoWave system technologies are not compatible with AirPlay certification. However, to access AirPlay, we recommend Apple TV®, a device that provides streaming music, photos and videos directly from the Internet, in addition to streaming content from your iOS device or computer.

How do I update the adapter software?

SoundTouch™ system software can be easily updated over the customer’s network through the free SoundTouch™ app. The app will let the user know when an update is available for each connected SoundTouch™ system.

Can I use the SoundTouch™ system without a home network ?

No. SoundTouch™ systems require access to a home network, whether for wired or wireless access. Wi-Fi is supported in all SoundTouch™ products for wireless access. Ethernet is available for all products except the SoundTouch™ Portable system for wired access. In addition, the SoundTouch™ app needs access to the same home network in order to control and configure a SoundTouch™ system.

What is the wireless range of SoundTouch™ products?

SoundTouch™ products require a good signal from your home network to function properly. Wherever your laptop or mobile Internet devices stream media content successfully in your home today, your SoundTouch™ products should also work well. Your home network range depends on many factors, including your Wi-Fi access point capabilities, the relative location of the Wi-Fi access point and Internet devices, home construction materials, the number of simultaneous Wi-Fi devices, the number and strength of adjacent Wi-Fi networks, and interfering signals, such as microwave ovens.

Will a Lifestyle® or VideoWave system with SoundTouch™ work without Internet access?

Yes, but in limited fashion. Without Internet access, SoundTouch™ systems that have already been set up can still play music stored on any computer connected to the network. However, you will not be able to stream music from the Internet or set new presets. Similarly, you will not be able to set up a new system without Internet access.

Will I experience interference from other wireless devices or between SoundTouch™ products?

Because there may be many Wi-Fi devices attached to your home theater systems, it is possible that there may be some interference between them. The SoundTouch™ adapter comes with six-foot connectors so you can move the adapter away from sources of interference. In addition, all Wi-Fi devices share the available bandwidth of the home network. As the number of devices increases, the bandwidth demands on the home network increases at a faster multiplier than the number of devices added to the network. Also, devices located long distances from the home network access point can also reduce the overall throughput of the network. A congested home network or a widely separated network can negatively impact the music experience (e.g., audio dropouts). Beyond this, as with any wireless product, we can expect interference from other wireless devices, other wireless networks and appliances like microwave ovens.

How do I access SoundTouch™ music with the native RF remote? What can I see on the remote screen and TV screen?

You access SoundTouch™ by selecting the “SoundTouch™” source from the source menu, similar to how you access any other source, such as a Blu-ray Disc™ player. From there, you can select one of your Presets, or browse the Recents list. The buttons (labeled 1 – 6) on the RF remote will also play a preset once the system is turned on and the SoundTouch™ source is selected.

On the Lifestyle® remote’s screen, you will see the service name you are listening to, as well as the title name.

On the TV screen, you will see either your Preset list or your Recents list, as well as TTAG information for what you are listening to.

Can the SoundTouch™ app control my Lifestyle® and VideoWave entertainment systems?

Yes. The SoundTouch™ app will allow you to turn on or switch to SoundTouch™ sources, and then control volume. It also will control volume of the system when listening to something other than your SoundTouch™ source. It will not control any of the home theater functions, AM/FM, or control any attached sources.
