No. Bone-conduction technology delivers vibrations directly to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrum. While this can be effective, it requires a tight fit between the bone-conduction device and your head and has significant sound quality limitations. Bose Sport Open Earbuds are different. Instead of sending sound waves through your bones, they use proprietary Bose OpenAudio™ technology to deliver rich, full-range sound while minimizing sound that others can hear, and they do not require a tight fit.

To power on the Bose Sport Open Earbuds for the first time, press the button on the left earbud, then press the button on the right earbud. The earbuds will turn on, pair with each other, and enter Bluetooth pairing mode. The status light will slowly blink blue, which signals it is ready to connect. From this point, you can connect using the Bose Music app or your device’s Bluetooth settings page.

How do I turn the earbuds on and off?

After initial setup, powering on the earbuds is as simple as pressing just the right earbud button. If left inactive, the earbuds will turn off on their own to save battery life, but you can also turn them off by pressing and holding the right earbud button for one second.

Place the rear barrel of the earbud over the top of the ear where glasses would rest, and then rotate the earbud backward until it grips the ear well enough to stay secure. Even when the earbuds feel loose at first, they tend to be quite stable, so extreme tightness is not necessary. If the bud becomes uncomfortable, twist it forward to loosen.

No. The wireless connection for Bose Sport Open Earbuds is Bluetooth only.

The Bluetooth connection for Bose Sport Open Earbuds has a reliable range of up to 30 ft (9 m). Performance can be affected by obstacles such as walls or metal, interference from Wi-Fi or other wireless devices, and device manufacturers’ Bluetooth implementations.

Bose Sport Open Earbuds can be connected to one device at a time but can keep track of the last seven devices they have been connected to, dropping the least recently used when a new one is paired.

When in Bluetooth mode, Bose Sport Open Earbuds search for and connect to the most recently connected active Bluetooth-enabled device. If that device is unavailable, Bose Sport Open Earbuds will attempt to connect to the next most recently connected device.

If you wish to connect to another device, you should hold the right bud button for 3 seconds until you hear “Ready to connect” and the status light slowly blinks blue.

Yes. There are microphones for making and taking phone calls or accessing a phone’s default voice assistant like Siri or Google Assistant. It works much like the microphones found on most Bluetooth wireless headphones, designed for excellent ambient and wind noise suppression.

An incoming call can be answered and ended by pressing the right earbud button once or declined by double-pressing the right earbud button.

An outgoing phone call can be placed by pressing and holding the left earbud button to access the phone’s voice assistant and placing a call via voice control.

The buttons have multiple functions, which are described in full in the Online Owner’s Guide for the Bose Sport Open Earbuds.

Right earbud button:

- Single-press to turn on.

- Press and hold to turn off.

When on and in audio playback mode, use the right earbud button to control content: play/pause (single press), skip forward (double press), and track backward (triple press).

When there is an incoming call, single-press the right earbud button to answer the call or double-press to reject the call. During an active call, single-press the button to end the call.

Left earbud button:

- Single-press to initiate the earbuds’ shortcut function, if enabled. Set the shortcut function in the Bose Music app.

- Press and hold to access Siri on an iOS device or Google Assistant on an Android device.

Press and hold the left earbud button to access Siri on an iOS device or Google Assistant on an Android device.

Volume control can be accessed in multiple ways on the Bose Sport Open Earbuds.

Voice assistant: Press and hold the button on the left earbud to control volume via your device’s voice assistant.

Bluetooth device: Use the volume controls on the connected Bluetooth device, such as the buttons on your smartphone or the volume slider in a music app.

On-product: Change the volume by slowly tapping on the center of each earbud. Tapping the right earbud will increase the volume and tapping on the left earbud will decrease the volume.

While Bose Sport Open Earbuds consist of two discrete earbuds, they operate together as one single pair. If you are accustomed to using one earbud in order to maintain awareness of your surroundings, you will enjoy the way the design of Bose Sport Open Earbuds allows you to wear both buds and still hear everything going on around you.

However, if you prefer to use just one earbud, the right bud may be used alone, since the right earbud houses the product’s microphones and its connection to your streaming device. The left bud cannot be used without the right bud present.

Yes. Bose Sport Open Earbuds are designed to be compatible with typical helmets, glasses, sunglasses, and earrings.

Yes. Bose Sport Open Earbuds are protected against sweat, rain, and splashes of water (IPX4 rating). In very heavy rain, water may enter the acoustic cavity without damaging the earbuds. Users can remove water by shaking the earbud or placing a wet paper towel against the acoustic ports to draw water out. Users can also set the earbuds aside in a dry place and the water inside should evaporate within 48 hours.

However, Bose Sport Open Earbuds are not fully waterproof, and are not meant to be submerged under water, such as use during swimming or other water sports.

Plug the stationary charging base into a standard USB-A port on a wall charger or a computer. Then place each bud into its magnetically aligned charging port, as indicated by the icons on the charging base. The status lights will pulse white to indicate that the Bose Sport Open Earbuds are charging. Bose Sport Open Earbuds can be fully charged from fully depleted in 2 hours, providing up to 8 hours of continuous play. A 30-minute charge will provide up to 3 hours of battery life.
