A classic bookshelf speaker

Bring clear, spacious sound to your music with these classic and versatile bookshelf speakers. They’re can fit comfortably on a shelf or in an entertainment center, yet use proprietary Bose technologies to convey much of the power of a live performance.

  • Component speakers that connect to a stereo receiver
  • Stereo Targeting® tweeters (2”) and one rear-firing tweeter (2”) combine for balanced stereo sound over a wide area
  • Long-excursion woofer (8") delivers clean, powerful low notes

In a live performance, music reaches your ears, and your emotions, through a blend of direct and reflected sound. Direct/Reflecting® speaker technology recreates this combination to deliver spacious sound similar to what you'd experience in a concert hall.

Unlike many conventional speakers that focus stereo effects in a prominent sweet spot, Bose 301 stereo speakers provide Stereo Everywhere® speaker performance. Proprietary technologies built into these bookshelf speakers let you enjoy balanced stereo sound almost anywhere in the room, not just in one “sweet spot.”

  • Direct/Reflecting® speaker technology blends reflected and direct sound to re-create much of a live concert's natural spaciousness.
  • Flared slot port design engineered to reduce air turbulence. Woofer and port geometry complement each other so you can enjoy cleaner and deeper performance in the lower frequencies, particularly at high volumes.
  • Stereo Targeting® tweeters use precisely angled, 2" proprietary drivers to deliver balanced stereo sound, so you can experience lifelike spaciousness throughout the listening area.
  • Home theater expansion capable for cinema-like sound—and a seamless home theater design—when you combine this product with a center channel speaker and any Direct/Reflecting® speaker system.
  • Stereo Everywhere® speaker performance produces balanced stereo sound over a wide area. The result of proprietary Bose technologies, these speakers let you enjoy balanced sound throughout the listening area, unlike conventional speakers that radiate sound mostly in a single direction.
  • One rear-firing tweeter (2") propels sound from the back and the side of the speaker. Enjoy a balance of reflected and direct sound for a spacious, natural experience much like a live performance.
  • Spatial Dispersion™ speaker lens creates a smoother high frequency spatial response and wider distribution of sound.
  • Long-excursion woofer (8") delivers clean, powerful low frequencies and balanced sound throughout your room.
  • Compact bookshelf design blends into your décor. Use these speakers for music, or movie sound—they can be used as main, secondary or surround home theater speakers.
  • Automatic protection circuitry prevents drivers from being overdriven and provides increased reliability while minimizing interference with the listening experience.
  • Syncom® computer tested to ensure one of the highest levels of quality and reliability in the audio industry.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding speaker I have had these speakers for little over a month now and so far, they have been an excellent speaker. I was using the Bose satellite speakers I have had for about 15 years and though they sound great, they do not have the full sound I am looking for. The 301 speaker gives me a fuller sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed my view I got these as a graduation present back in '04 and paired them up with some darn good Klipsch speakers. These things changed the way I view sound. I thought an HDTV would improve my gaming experience. HECK NO! These things thump. The gaming experience was so rich that I felt like I had an advantage playing online. Further, I peeled through my MP3 collection listening to old songs over and over again because I heard sounds I didnt know were there. I also noticed cruddy MP3 quality. Such rich filling sound leaves little for wanting more. Audio-philes hate and hate. Their ears may be better than mine, and their rants may be right and I may have not compared too many speakers, but my experience with Bose is one that was so good that I would be extremely skeptical switching to some other brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly Awesome I bought these from Amazon around a week ago, the Klipsch RF-62II's were starting to give me a headache, they were too directional, the cure came from Bose, with direct/reflective technology these little guys pull up a really big, pleasant sound stage. No, they're not as efficient but, really, in 2.1 or 3.1 (using a Klipsch rc-62II center channel) they put up a really great sound stage that could allow me to listen for hours on end, to both movies and music. These little guys do a better job with Dave Brubeck and movies than speakers supposedly made for movies. My receiver, a Yamaha RX-A740 never strains to get these guys to crank to 110 db. Other cool news, using Yamaha's YPAO to equalize volume over frequency, these guys roll to the subwoofer at 60 Hz, the same roll off as the RF-62II. All said, I think they were a great deal

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still Kickin Purchased my Bose 301 speaker set in 1993 while on active duty military. These speakers are still kickin just like new. Bose will have a hard time exceeding the performance of the 301 series

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound, Long Life I bought a pair of 301s way back when they were series II. If the newest series are at least as good you can't go wrong with them. I used them primarily in a small living room and now in a bedroom. Don't put them right up against the wall. The placement specs given in the owners manual are just recommendations. Experiment with how far you have them from the side walls and the ceiling or floor. When you get it right you won't believe the quality of the sound coming from such small speakers. The overall frequency response and sound quality is amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing longevity I found a pair of 301s in the dump about 10 years ago. It's amazing what people throw away. Not sure how old they are, but I remember these being super popular even back in the '70s. I hooked them up to the Tandberg receiver I scored for $7.50 at a thrift store, and have been using them ever since. They sound great!
