Bose Advances Open-ear Audio with New Sport Open Earbuds and Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen)

The next-generation lineup offers more ways to stay connected to music and the world

September 17, 2026 – Today, Bose unveils the Bose Sport Open Earbuds and Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen), expanding its open-ear line with two products designed to create more listening moments across active pursuits and everyday life. Engineered for running, workouts, and outdoor adventures, the Sport Open Earbuds combine a secure, lightweight fit with a durable, soft silicone design and rich open-ear audio. The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) are Bose’s flagship open-ear experience, pairing the cuff-shape design Bose originally pioneered with improved, more immersive audio, longer battery life, clearer calls, and a refined design for all-day listening, from commutes and work to downtime and every moment in between.

The Bose Sport Open Earbuds ($199) and Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) ($299) will be available October 1, with preorders opening on September 19 on Bose.com and with select retailers. Both will be offered in Black or White Smoke. Sport Open Earbuds also launch in limited-edition Eucalyptus Green; and the next-gen Ultra Open Earbuds feature limited-edition Cherry Chocolate, Olive Green, and Sky Pink.

“With the original Ultra Open Earbuds, Bose introduced a new way to experience your music without tuning out the world. That meant creating something people could comfortably wear all day, so music could simply be part of life as it happens,” said Raza Haider, president of Bose Premium Consumer Audio. “Now, we’re building on that foundation, bringing the same focus on comfort and design into sport while making our flagship experience even better. Whether training, working or moving through the day, these earbuds are designed to feel as good as they sound.”

The Bose difference in open audio

At the heart of both new earbuds is Bose OpenAudio technology, engineered to deliver rich, personal sound from a completely open design. This feat of engineering combines a transducer with a tightly controlled acoustic structure to precisely deliver clear sound to your ear with minimal sound leakage. Powerful Bose SoundDesign digital signal processing brings it all together, balancing clarity and deep bass so you can hear and feel your music without closing out the world around you.

Unlike bone conduction designs, the earbuds do not require a tight contact point against the head, instead delivering sound through the air near the ear rather than bone vibrations, resulting in fuller, more natural sound with a comfortable, pressure-free fit. As both devices feature an open-ear design intended to provide situational awareness, they do not offer active noise cancellation. Instead, you remain naturally aware of traffic, announcements, conversations, and what’s unfolding around you while enjoying rich, private sound.

Both models also feature Bose SpeechClarity, a proprietary AI-enhanced voice-isolation technology. One dedicated microphone and one voice pickup unit in each earbud work together to isolate your voice from background noise while preserving tone, warmth and natural expression. The technology brings Bose’s best call-quality experience to its line of open-ear wearables. Whether on a busy street, moving through a crowded station, or walking or running outdoors, you can hear and be heard while staying aware of your surroundings.

Bose Sport Open Earbuds: built to move

The new Bose Sport Open Earbuds bring the benefits of open audio to a device engineered for the realities of active, strenuous movement. Built for running, fitness, and a wide range of outdoor activities, they prioritize stability, comfort, and durability, with tactile controls designed for easy use during workouts — all while delivering rich, open sound.

Custom-designed dynamic drivers deliver full, balanced audio while Auto Volume automatically adjusts loudness as ambient noise changes — like keeping a runner’s playlist consistent when a quiet stretch of a marathon-training route opens onto a busy, traffic-heavy street.

A C-arm cuff with a soft silicone matte finish gently anchors around the ear for a stable fit. Its slim, lightweight profile remains comfortable and secure in motion — capable of staying put during headshakes, cartwheels, and other activity bound to put a secure fit to the ultimate test. Added textured physical buttons provide dependable control of music, calls, and volume, even with mid-workout sweaty fingers.

Rated IP54 for sweat, splash and dust resistance, the durable silicone construction is built to withstand the demands of activity while making dirt and grime easy to wipe away. The pocket-ready charging case stands upright, supports wireless charging and features a translucent, textured lid for grip assistance.

For battery performance, the Sport Open Earbuds are designed to power through everything from episodic workouts to marathons with up to seven hours of playback on a single charge, and up to 22 additional hours total stored in the wireless charging case.

Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen): elevated sound for every day

The new Ultra Open Earbuds build on the recognizable cuff silhouette of the original with improved sound and call quality, expanded features, a refined design and longer battery life for all-day use.

A newly engineered driver delivers deeper bass and higher volume than the first-generation model. SpeechClarity technology keeps calls clear and natural while Auto Volume intelligently adjusts playback to fluctuations in the environment, such as stepping onto a busy street after leaving a café or settling into a quiet workspace after a noisy commute.

Further enhancing the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) experience is the introduction of Cinema Mode, powered by Bose TrueSpatial technology. Designed to bring video content and podcasts to life, it creates a wider, more immersive soundstage while keeping dialogue sharp, clear, and precisely centered. The result is a theater-like listening experience that works with any content source.

While the new earbuds stay true to the original’s form factor, additional design updates include a refined metallic cap with a beveled finish. The redesigned, pocket-ready case can stand upright and now supports wireless charging.

Battery life has also been enhanced to deliver up to nine hours of playback, with up to 19.5 additional hours stored in the wireless charging case. Additionally, the earbuds support Snapdragon Sound with aptX Adaptive for high-quality audio, lower latency, and reliable connectivity on compatible Android devices.

Connectivity, convenience, and the Bose app

Both earbuds use Bluetooth® Core 5.4 and support multipoint connectivity with two devices, along with SBC and AAC codecs and Google Fast Pair for quick connections to Android devices.

Each device also features the option to set up customizable shortcuts for Spotify Tap, quick access to a phone’s native voice assistant, and cycling through Bose Immersive Audio settings (Ultra Open Earbuds only).

After the October 1 release, a planned firmware update will enable an additional slate of new features for both devices: Google Find Hub, Alexa+, and shortcut support for Apple Music. Google Find Hub helps you locate the earbuds if they’re misplaced, built-in Alexa+ makes it easier to get hands-free help for tasks like making a restaurant reservation or asking for music recommendations, and shortcut access to Apple Music instantly jumps you back into your favorite playlist.

Through the Bose app, users can tailor their open-ear experience with an adjustable three-band EQ, Auto Volume control, and shortcut function configuration while accessing Bluetooth device management, firmware updates, and more.
