What are Bose Hearphones?
Bose Hearphones are the first headphones designed to improve live listening in environments where you may have difficulty understanding conversations, like noisy places or when watching television with someone who prefers a different volume. The headphones have special controls to improve live listening (World Volume, Bass and Treble, Ear Balance and Directivity).
Like the QuietControl 30 wireless headphones, Bose Hearphones are also Bluetooth in-ear headphones with Acoustic Noise Cancelling technology. The headphones have special controls to make listening to music or other smartphone content better.
Are Bose Hearphones a hearing aid?
Bose Hearphones are not a hearing aid, they are not a medical device. We believe there are many people who are not hearing aid candidates who would like to enhance their ability to have conversations in noisy environments—whether for comfort or clarity. Hearphones fall into a category of products called 'Personal Sound Amplification Products' (PSAPs).
Can Bose Hearphones be used with an app?
Yes. Bose Hearphones are designed to be used with the Bose Hear app. The app is currently available worldwide on the App Store and Google Play store, in English only. While there are unique product features that can only be accessed with the app, core Bose Hearphones functions work independent of the app.
What is the difference between Bose Hearphones and QuietControl 30 wireless headphones?
Bose Hearphones differ in important ways from QuietControl 30 wireless headphones:
- Bose Hearphones uniquely improve live-voice listening
- The two buttons on the side of the 5-button controller do different but similar things:
- On the Bose Hearphones, the ▲ (top button) increases the loudness of the outside world, and the ▼ (bottom button) reduces the loudness of the outside world. This feature is called “World Volume” because the buttons increase and decrease the loudness of the world
- On the QuietControl 30 wireless headphones, the ▲ (top button) increases the amount of noise cancelling, and the ▼ (bottom button) decreases the amount of noise cancelling
- The Bose Hear app is an integral part of the product, with unique features only accessible through it. While Bose Hearphones are designed to be used with the Bose Hear app, they are also compatible with the Bose Connect app for basic functions. QuietControl 30 wireless headphones are compatible with the Bose Connect app only
- The 5-button controller is located closer to the neck component on the Bose Hearphones than it is for the QuietControl 30 headphones to make it less obtrusive in social situations
What tablets or smartphones are compatible with Bose Hearphones and the Bose Hear app?
The Bose Hear app works with Bluetooth 2.1 and is compatible with Apple iOS 10 or newer and Android 4.4 (KitKat) or newer.
What is World Volume?
World Volume is the primary controller for Bose Hearphones. Just like the volume setting on your phone controls the loudness of your music, podcast and phone calls, the World Volume setting controls the loudness of live voices, TV and other environmental sounds. You can adjust the World Volume so that it’s just right for you.
The World Volume can be adjusted on your Hearphones inline controls or by using the app. All World Volume settings use Bose Acoustic Noise Cancelling technology.
- Above “0,” the Bose Hearphones will amplify the environment in a special way: Quiet sounds are amplified more than loud sounds so that all sounds can be heard but none are uncomfortable. This is helpful when the customer needs to hear conversation in acoustically challenging environments
- At “0,” the environment will sound as loud as it would if the Bose Hearphones weren’t worn
- Below “0,” the Bose Hearphones will reduce sounds in the environment. This is useful so that the customer can escape loud environmental sounds and either focus on their smartphone content or just enjoy the quiet
What is Bass and treble?
Bass and treble adjustments on the Bose Hear app can optimize live listening, making sounds deeper (more bass) or brighter (more treble). This adjustment does not apply to streamed sounds coming from your smartphone.
What is microphone Directivity?
The microphones within Hearphones earbuds can be configured via the Bose Hear app or from the buttons on the side of the inline remote. You can focus on sounds in front, like in a conversation across a table, or all around, like when walking through a park. When focused on the front, sounds in front will be the same loudness, but the noises all around will be quieter so that overall the sound environment will be quieter. This will make a conversation with someone across a table in a loud environment setting more intelligible and more comfortable.
What is Ear balance?
The Ear balance control lets you set the left and right ear differently. Once set differently, the other controls will maintain the difference. Ear balance is controlled on the Bose Hear app.
What is Boost?
The Boost control provides special emphasis on high-frequency content from your smartphone, such as treble/high-pitched sounds in music or consonants in spoken podcasts and phone calls. The amount of boost can be reduced or turned off in the app.
How are Bose Hearphones charged? And how long will they take to charge?
Bose Hearphones can be charged using the USB cable supplied in the box. Just plug the micro-USB into the neckband and the USB into the USB port on a computer or a wall charger (sold separately). Allow up to three hours for the headphones to fully charge. (If the battery is depleted, a quick 15-minute charge provides approximately one hour of play time.) While charging, the power status indicator will flash amber. Once fully charged, the power status indicator light will turn solid green.
Can Bose Hearphones be used for music even if the battery is depleted?
No. Bose Hearphones come with a USB cable that allows the headphones to be charged from your PC/laptop or wall charger. Please note the PC or laptop must be on and “awake” in order to charge over USB.
Why are there three pairs of ear tips?
Three different sizes of StayHear+ tips are included so you can select the size most appropriate and most comfortable for you. You should experiment to find the best fit for your ears and may find that having a different size for each ear is most comfortable. Typically, most adults will prefer the medium-size tips.
